Official cards, certifications and credentials are issued only by the authorized organizations linked below, and many require in-person training, an employer or agency sponsor, or a state academy.
🦺Jobsite & workplace safety
For construction crews, warehouse and facility teams, and anyone starting a safety-sensitive job.
OSHA 10-Hour
Entry-level hazard awareness for construction and general industry. Students receive a completion card from an OSHA-authorized trainer. OSHA notes the cards are not a certification and don’t replace employer-required training.
OSHA Outreach Training Program →OSHA 30-Hour
Deeper, broader training for workers with some safety responsibility, such as supervisors and leads, in construction or general industry.
Program overview →Disaster Site Worker
7.5- and 15-hour classes for workers who support response and recovery at disaster sites.
Learn more →🚧Highway, roadway & work-zone safety
For highway patrol partners, DOT crews, towing and recovery, fire, EMS and anyone who works beside live traffic.
National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Responder Training
The FHWA’s 4-hour course teaches responders to clear crashes safely and quickly. It’s free in person or online (NHI course 133126A), and more than 800,000 responders have completed it.
FHWA TIM training →Flagger certification
The foundation of work-zone traffic control. ATSSA’s flagger course covers proper signaling, positioning and staying safe in the zone.
ATSSA training →Traffic Control Technician & Supervisor
Next steps for setting up, maintaining and overseeing temporary traffic control in work zones.
Certification paths →🚓Law enforcement career pathways
For recruits and sworn officers. These are earned through a state academy or agency, and our courses will explain what each one involves and how to get there.
Basic peace officer certification
Every state’s Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) agency sets the academy and certification standards officers must meet.
IADLEST (POST directors) →SFST, ARIDE & DRE
Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement, and the Drug Recognition Expert program, the core impaired-driving enforcement training ladder.
DRE program (IACP) →Crisis Intervention Team
Training that helps officers respond safely and compassionately to people in mental health crisis, in partnership with local behavioral health services.
CIT International →🏘️Neighborhood, home & community safety
For neighbors, homeowners, renters, HOAs and real estate professionals.
Neighborhood Watch
National Neighborhood Watch, a division of the National Sheriffs’ Association, helps residents organize and register watch groups. Members are the “eyes and ears” who report to law enforcement, and they never take action themselves.
National Neighborhood Watch →Public offender registry literacy
The Dru Sjodin National Sex Offender Public Website (NSOPW), a U.S. Department of Justice partnership with states, territories and tribes, searches state, county and tribal registries for free. Always verify results with the local jurisdiction, and never use registry information to harass anyone.
NSOPW.gov →FEMA CERT & Independent Study
The Community Emergency Response Team program trains volunteers in disaster preparedness. FEMA’s free online courses, such as IS-100 and IS-700, introduce the Incident Command System and NIMS.
FEMA Independent Study →Stop the Bleed, CPR & First Aid
Life-saving skills anyone can learn, including bleeding control, CPR and AED use, from the American College of Surgeons, the American Red Cross and the American Heart Association.
Stop the Bleed →Home & realty safety
Home security basics for owners and renters, safer open houses and showings for agents, and how to read public safety information when choosing a neighborhood, taught with fair-housing principles in mind.
